Setting up a catch-all

If you want to receive every e-mail directed at your domain name, even e-mail sent to non-existent recipients, you can set up a catch-all forwarder. This practice comes with a warning about spam.

An e-mail catch-all forwards e-mail addressed to non-existent recipients

An e-mail catch-all is a special e-mail forwarder that "catches" any e-mail sent to addresses you haven't explicitly set up. This allows you to receive e-mail, even if people misspell the first part of your e-mail address, or if you don't want to maintain a list of known e-mail addresses.

WARNING: Accepting mail with unknown recipient addresses at your hosted domain names will greatly increase the amount of spam you receive. This is because spammers routinely try common names and words when attempting to deliver junk mail to known domain names.

Steps to set up an e-mail catch-all

  1. Log in to AMS Control Panel as owner, or as a user with the "Manage e-mail forwarders" permission turned on.
  2. Click the "E-mail" category tab, then click the "Manage e-mail forwarders" link at left.
  3. Select a domain name from the drop-down list. Select "Set catch-all action", and click "Next".

On the next screen, you have two choices:

    1. Do not accept mail at non-existent addresses
If you don't want to receive e-mail addressed to unknown e-mail addresses, select this option and click the "Finish" button.
    2. Set up forwarding for non-existent addresses
If you want to collect all e-mail at your domain name regardless of how it's addressed, select this option and click the "Next" button. You'll be presented with the screen pictured in the figure below.
      1. In the box labeled "Forward to these e-mail addresses", enter one or more e-mail addresses, one per line.
      2. Click "Finish" to save your changes.
