Data access

Customers hosting websites using the Net Image package can use MySQL and Microsoft Access databases to store information.

Steps to add a MySQL database

  1. Log in to AMS Control Panel as owner, or as a user with the "Activate package features" permission turned on.
  2. Click the "Features" category tab, then click the "Manage MySQL databases" link at left.
  3. Select the user name you want to add the new database to, and click "Next".
  4. Optionally enter a description to help you remember how this database is used (for example, "Customer list"). The description is displayed only in Control Panel when you view a summary of your databases. Click "Finish".
  5. A summary is displayed, showing you the user name and password to use to connect to the database.

Steps to add a Microsoft Access DSN (available only on Windows Server)

When you add an Access DSN using the steps below, an empty Access database file is placed in your account's data folder. The data folder is a special writable folder that contains Access database files. The data folder is located in the root folder of your account, not inside your web documents folder, but adjacent to it.
  1. Log in to AMS Control Panel as owner, or as a user with the "Activate package features" permission turned on. At least one website must be hosted on Windows Server.
  2. Click the "Features" category tab, then click the "Add Microsoft Access DSN" link at left.
  3. Select the user name you want to add the DSN to, and click "Finish".
  4. A summary is displayed, showing you the DSN name to use, and the Microsoft Access database file that was created in your account's data folder. You can either fill this file with your data, or replace it with your own database file. Be sure to rename your own database file to the same file name you see in the summary.
