Make a folder writable
Customers hosting websites on Windows Server can make a folder "writable",
so that scripts can add, modify and remove files in them.
Folders are not writable by default
When you create your website and upload it to the server, the files and folders are protected so that they are not "writable" by anyone other than yourself. This is to protect your web pages from unauthorized access, and to ensure their security in the web environment. Occassionally, you may need specific folders to be writable so that the web server software can add, modify and delete files in them. This is necessary if, for example, you want to accept file uploads from your visitors' browsers via a script on your website.Steps to make a folder writable on Windows Server
- Log in to AMS Control Panel as owner, or as a user with a website hosted on Windows Server.
- Click the "Features" category tab, then click the "Make folder writable" link at left.
- Select the website that contains the folder you want to make writable. Enter the path to the folder in the "Path to folder" field. You can also browse the contents of your website to select the folder by clicking the "Browse..." button. A new window will appear showing the folders in your website. Click a folder name to reveal any subfolders. When you've clicked the name of the folder you want to make writable, click the "Done" button. The path to the folder appears in the text field.
- Click "Finish" to make the folder writable.
