Setting up Windows Mail
These steps show the correct settings for Windows Mail, the e-mail software
included with Windows Vista, to retrieve mail from Korax e-mail accounts.
Follow these steps
- Create an e-mail account using Control Panel. The e-mail account will store your incoming mail. Make a note of the e-mail account password provided to you when you create the account.
-
Start Windows Mail, and click the "Tools" menu item. Select "Accounts".
The "Internet accounts" window appears.
-
Click the "Add" button in the upper right corner of the window. The "Add Account"
window appears. Select "E-mail Account", and click "Next".
-
Enter your name as you would like it to appear
in the "From" field of the e-mail messages you send. Click "Next".
-
Enter the e-mail address of the account you created in step one, and click "Next".
-
In the "Incoming mail server" field, enter your domain name preceded by "mail.",
such as mail.example.com. In the "Outgoing mail server" field, enter your
Internet service provider's outgoing (SMTP) mail server name, or,
if you prefer to use Korax' mail server for outgoing mail, enter your domain name preceded by
"mail.", such as mail.example.com.
If you want to use Korax' mail server for outgoing mail, check the box marked
"Outgoing server requires authentication". You will also have to perform
additional steps after you create the account. These steps appear at the end
of this procedure.
Click "Next".
-
In the "E-mail username" field, enter the e-mail address of the account you created
in step one. In the "Password" field, enter the e-mail account password that was given to you
when you created the e-mail account.
Check "Remember password" if you don't want to be prompted to enter your password each time
you check for new mail. Click "Next".
-
On the final screen, click "Finish" to save your new e-mail account.
Editing your new e-mail account to use Korax' outgoing mail server
If you want to use Korax' outgoing mail server, instead of your ISP's mail server, you will need to perform the following additional steps.- In the "Internet Accounts" window, select the account you just created, and click the "Properties" button. The "Properties" window appears.
- Click the "Advanced" tab.
-
Under "Server Port Numbers", in the field labeled "Outgoing mail (SMTP)",
type the number 587.
- Optional, but recommended: To protect the privacy of your email account username,
password, and email messages as they travel over the Internet between your computer and the mail server,
we strongly recommend enabling SSL encryption as follows:
- Check both boxes marked "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)".
- Change "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" to port 465.
- Change "Incoming mail (POP3)" to port 995.
- Click "OK".
