Keeping domain names

All domain names are registered for a term of one to ten years, and must be renewed before they expire. Expired domain name registrations cause your website and e-mail to stop functioning, even if your web hosting service is fully paid. Your domain name registration service is separate from your web hosting service, even if you've purchased both from Korax. In order to ensure that your domain name registration never expires, make sure that you follow some simple guidelines.

Ensure your domain name's contact information is up to date

The most common reason customers give for having let their domain name expire is that they never received the e-mail notifying them of renewal time. As the domain name owner, you are obligated to keep valid contact information on your domain name registration at all times, including your current e-mail address. E-mail is the only method of contact between you and your service provider.

Once each year, you'll receive an e-mail notice reminding you to update your domain name registration information, if it has changed.

At Korax, domain name renewal notices are sent ninety days, sixty days, thirty days, and finally five days before expiry, if the domain name has not been renewed. Notices are sent to the e-mail address of the domain name's administrative contact person. You can manage your domain name information by using our domain name management website.

Renew before your current registration expires

You'll need to renew your domain name at Korax, or transfer the registration to Korax, before your current registration expires. Every provider and registrar requires prepayment for their domain registration services.

If your domain name has expired

If your domain name registration has expired, your domain name is put on hold and becomes unusable. If you renew your domain name within a certain period of time, the domain name is reactiveated immediately or within a few hours. If no payment is made, the name is eventually deleted, and becomes available for registration by anyone.
