Problems transferring files
If you experience difficulty transferring files to your web hosting account,
the most common solution is to enable a setting in your FTP software.
Software, upload, and network issues
- Use passive transfer mode if behind a firewall
- Upload your files to the web document folder
- Scripts must be uploaded in "ASCII" mode
- Rule out network problems between your computer and Korax
1. Use passive transfer mode if behind a firewall
Your FTP software will have an option to turn on "passive mode", also called "outgoing
data connections" or PASV mode. Passive mode allows file transfers to complete when
you are connecting through a firewall, or if your local network uses private IP addresses, such as 192.168.x.x.
This will be the case with many office networks.
2. Upload your files to your web document folder.
If you use FTP to transfer files to your website, make sure you upload your web pages
to the web document folder.
When you connect directly to your FTP account without specifying a start folder, you
are placed in your account's home directory. Don't upload your files here. Instead,
look for a folder with the same name as your website address, such as
www.example.com. This is where your files must be placed in order for
your website to be visible.
Scripts must be uploaded in "ASCII" mode
Sometimes there are differences in text file formats between files on your personal
computer and files on servers. In order to be sure that your scripts and other text
files aren't affected by possible differences, always upload text files in "ASCII" mode,
not binary mode.
Rule out network problems between your computer and Korax
General Internet problems can affect your ability to transfer files between two locations.
